DJ & Interdisciplinary artist Niyah West is creating a place to PLAY

Niyah West [She/They] is a DJ & Music Curator. Her curiosity for exploring presence on the dance floor has touched admirers of sound in North America, EU, UK and Netherlands. Her ability to transform sound rooms and warehouses into momentary celebrations of unity can only be experienced. Moving between themes of longing, love, intimacy and soul, this Jersey-native has been slinging records for some of NYC’s best sound systems and cultural spaces. These include Public Records, Good Room, Paragon, Nowadays, Museum of Modern Art, The Travel Agency and Signal NYC.

Niyah’s sound challenges the conventional. Her shameless nature gives her boundless ways of connecting with listeners; opening the door for them to explore their own expression. This playful approach of DJing gives her the freedom in selections to bounce around effortlessly. You will hear her foundational roots in house, techno grooves, r&b and elements of sweet disruption. Her tracks showcase the make of a sound system and the music that gives them life. The itch for this DJ to uplift these sonic treasures gives her the motivation to make each moment behind the booth like none other.

Beyond the booth, Niyah has co-founded a monthly party series In The Pocket, DIY community space Queer Vinyl Collective a mix series, reflections.

Niyah currently holds a monthly residency at Bar Calico, a space that offers libations inspired by Geogria O’ Keefe’s ‘Southern Paintings’
